An Oil Spill near Rupert? Nope. Just A Drill

Don’t be alarmed this weekend if you see the responders working together on an apparent oil spill near Prince Rupert.

“This is just a drill,” said the federal agency on Facebook.

Emergency responders will be on the water from Oct. 21 to 23, training for environmental response to future spills.

The joint exercise is conducted by the Gitxaala Nation, Metlakatla First Nation, Prince Rupert Port Authority and the Western Canada Marine Response Corporation, the Coast Guard posted on Facebook. 

“By training together, we strengthen our collaboration in case of a crisis,” said the Coast Guard.

If you spot an oil spill call the Coast Guard’s B.C. emergency line, 1-800-889-8852 emergency line in B.C., and provide your name, number, the location and quantity of the spill, the product spilled, and the weather.
